Unemployment for Black Women Continues to Rise

Unemployment for Black women rose sharply in 2025, climbing from 5.4% to 7.3% by year’s end and reaching levels comparable to the worst months of the Great Recession.

As economic conditions tighten, the data points to widening racial and gender disparities in who is laid off and how long recovery takes.
